Trail Cycling Ring

A mix of track and tarmac gets you off the road and into the heart of the High Ground of Scotland, with sections to suit everyone of all abilities.

Trail Section 1 - Killin to St Fillans

This route developed by Sustrans largely avoids the busy A85 so the views can be admired in safety.
The first part of the route is a gentle well surfaced cycle path all the way to Lochearnhead. (8.8 miles) Once the top of GlenOgle is reached (approx 1 hour) there is a long downhill on a well surfaced ex railway track down Glenogle with amazing views of the Glen, Viaducts and the busy...

Trail Section 2 - St Fillans to Crieff

This is an easy family friendly route that takes in much of what is best about Perthshire. Peaceful, beautiful with interesting and unspoilt towns and villages. The tracks are undemanding and family friendly.
The route consists of a mixture of track and road suitable for MTB's and Trail bikes. It is suitable for families used to travelling this distance with next to no large hills. The...

Trail Section 3 - Crieff to Aberfeldy

This is a very tough exhilarating journey with stunning mountain views and wildlife. Lots of Deer and Grouse.
The route is demanding as there are long stretches of steep uphill tracks at Monzie, Glen Almond and Glen Quaich. The track down from Glen Quaich to Aberfeldy is very bumpy but exhilarating but shouldn't be attempted in poor visibility. The C road route down to Kenmore is an...

Trail Section 4 - Aberfeldy to Bridge of Balgie

A relatively easy route with gentle slopes except Drummond Hill but this could be avoided by cycling along the road.
Appin of Dull has many interesting stops, Drummond hill has beautiful views of Loch Tay and the possibility of Capercaillie sightings, while Glen Lyon is thought by many to be the most beautiful glen in Scotland and is a very special place. The trees in spring and early...

Trail Section 5 - Bridge of Balgie to Tyndrum

A tough physically demanding route in high and very remote countryside with little in the way of facilities for refreshment. Spectacular mountain scenery at the top of a remote highland glen.
The road from Bridge of Balgie to Pubil is a gentle uphill gradient. From Loch Lyon to Tyndrum there are some steep tracks on a fairly good Land Rover track with a lot of river/stream crossings....

Trail Section 6 - Tyndrum to Killin

This is a gentle easy route with nice views southwards to Ben Mhor and an interesting short section on the West Highland Way. Be careful of walkers as this is a very popular walking route.
With the exception of the 3 miles on the West Highland Way track all of this route is on tarmac. Suitable for Mountain bikes, Trail Bikes and with the exception of the WHW track, Road bikes. Family...
